Discipleship Weekend

Often times, one of the first questions we receive from those considering serving on a Kairos team is, “Do I need to do anything?”

While the short answer is “no, if you have a heart for this ministry and you love Jesus, that’s all that matters.”, the longer answer is, “sort of.”

The Kairos model is one that says team members should have experienced a three day retreat prior to serving on a team.

This is not a hard and fast rule, but highly suggested and for good reason.

For those who have ever experienced a three-day retreat (Cursillo or Emmaus are examples), you know how rewarding an experience it is for your soul and for your commitment to Christ.

By doing one of these weekends, you will not only recommit your life to Christ but you will also know first-hand what the residents of Angola are experiencing on a Kairos weekend as you too have gone through a similar type of weekend.

Again, this is not required and many great servants inside the Kairos model have served with great integrity and impact without having attended a three-day retreat.

However, if you can make a three-day retreat, most will tell you how rewarding it is.

Cursillo and Emmaus weekends are not for everyone. Sometimes the schedule alone might not work. For this reason, we have been holding Discipleship Weekends in south Louisiana, which serve the same purpose as a Cursillo or an Emmaus.

There is another Discipleship weekend coming up March 21st and will be led by former Kairos leader, Joel Bajat.

If you know of anyone that would like to attend, please have them contact Joel or Freddie Sanders.

The Life of Jesus Christ Play

This weekend, the entire Kairos community is encouraged to attend a fantastic performance on the Angola grounds.

The performance is a live play entitled, The Life of Jesus Christ.

This three hour play depicts the complete story of Jesus’ life and resurrection. The play is performed entirely from residents of Angola and is performed as a live outdoor event on the grounds of Angola.

There are two performances, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Both performances start at 10am and the gates open at 9am.

Tickets are $10 each. For more information, please call: (225) 931-3664 or (225) 655-2592.

We begin again…

A great message from Trent Garrett, leader of Team 56, which begins team formation tomorrow at First United Methodist Church.

Good afternoon everyone,

On Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 9:00 am in a nondescript room at First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, LA, many of us will begin preparation for a Weekend Event designed to allow the Participants from Main Prison at Angola to witness Christ’s love through the servitude of Christian volunteers, Team #56.

During this event, Participants are given the opportunity to experience a religious awakening or renewal, to accept God’s call to a life of Christian witness, and for service to one another during their stay in the institution and beyond.   After the Weekend, the Participants are encouraged to establish strong Christian communities within their institution.

I look forward with eager anticipation to the journey to fulfill “The Purpose of Kairos Inside”.

If any of you are willing and able, please bring an item of nourishment with you for our scheduled team meeting.  We have many things to discuss.  I understand that there are some changes that have been implemented on the national level that we are being asked to adhere to.  Please come with an open mind and a willing spirit.

Keep in mind that this ministry is not mine or yours, it’s the Lord’s!

YBIC,

Trent

Kairos in South Africa

Remember those times when we are amazed at how people from all over the world pray for our Angola Kairos weekends

Remember how important it is for the prayer chain to be filled?

Remember how awesome it was to see someone from across the world fill up a time slot that, in our world, was the middle of the night?

Now is your chance to return the favor.

Johannesburg Kairos #9 in South Africa needs our support.

The time has arrived

The first team meeting for Team 56 is Saturday at 9:00am at First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge.

The leader of Team 56, Trent Garrett, has asked that team members be 10-15 minutes early as he would like to start on time and get out as early as possible.

Safe travels to all – and may we all, regardless of whether you are on the team or not, pray for a successful Kairos!
